An Introduction to the Key Laboratory of Polyoxometalate Science of Ministry of Education, Northeast Normal University The Key Laboratory of Polyoxometalate Science of Ministry of Education was founded in 2004 at Faculty of Chemistry, Northeast Normal University and formally opened to researchers at home and abroad in July, 2006. The research direction of the laboratory concentrates on the frontier field of multidiscipline intersection – polyoxometalate (POM) materials, the research of which was initiated herein more than fifty years ago. It covers: POM synthetic chemistry, POM functional materials, POM catalytic chemistry, and POM molecular design and theory. The detailed research areas include: synthesis, characterization and properties of heteropoly blues; POM nanomaterials; POM medicine chemistry; inorganic-organic hybrid materials; POM-based molecular materials and devices; photocatalysis by POM catalysts; optical and electronic properties of POMs by both theoretical and experimental methods; and coordination chemistry. The laboratory has become the research base of polyoxometalate science in china and P. R. China is now one of the six international POM research centers (the others are United States, France, Russia, Germany, and Japan). At present, there are 28 fixed members in the laboratory, including 14 professors and 8 associate professors. 25 fellows from all research members are young or middle-aged scholars holding Ph. D. The laboratory has become the base for MSC, Ph.D. and postdoctoral fellows. Visiting scholars at home and abroad are cordially invited to collaborate with us. Currently, there are many advanced instruments in the laboratory such as single crystal X-ray diffractometer, SQUID magnetometer, Atom Force Microscope (AFM), 500 MHz NMR spectrometer, FT-Raman and UV-vis spectrometers. The laboratory possesses a strong research background and scientific research capabilities in the filed of polyoxometalate science. We have established our own research characteristics and steady developing directions. So far, we have undertaken more than 100 key research projects such as Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), High Technology Program (863), National New Medicine Engineering (1035 Project) and so on and obtained research fund of ca. fifteen million RMB. We have edited or translated 8 professional books such as Introduction to Polyoxometalate Chemistry and Isopoly and Heteropoly oxometalates. We have published more than 1000 research papers on both domestic and foreign chemical journals, among which many were published on very famous international academic journals such as Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Coord. Chem. Rev., Chem. Commun., and Chem. Eur. J..
